Hold to peek
Same ticket. Different secret.
Every phone deals the same ride ticket. Hold it to peek, and let go to hide it. Only one says something different.
Tap a ticket to peek.
How a round goes
Peek. Ask. Vote. Guess.
About two minutes, start to finish. Then deal the next one.
Peek at your ticket
Hold it to see the secret word. One player sees "You're out of line!" instead.
Ask out loud
Take turns asking the question on your phone. Prove you know the word without giving it away.
Vote in secret
Who's out of line? Everyone votes at once. Nobody sees a pick until the count.
One last guess
The outsider picks the word from six. Everyone else guesses what they'll pick.
Points carry over, round after round
- +1 for catching the outsider
- +3 for the outsider who gets away
- +2 for guessing the word
See it
Hold. Flip. Don't react.
The real game, twice: an insider's ticket, then the outsider's. Keep a straight face either way.
Pourquoi c’est génial
Everyone knows the word. Except one of you.
Bluff with a straight face
Answer clearly enough to prove you know the word, and vaguely enough to keep it from the outsider. Say too little and you look guilty.
The outsider can still win
Caught or not, the outsider gets one guess at the word. Guess it right and it's two more points.
Every phone looks the same
The outsider's screen matches everyone else's, down to the buzz. A glance at your neighbor's phone gives nothing away.
One scan and you're in
One person starts a game. Everyone else scans the code and types a name. Nothing to install.
No phone? Share one
Kids, grandparents and dead batteries get their own seat and score on someone's phone. It asks to be passed before anything secret.
Real screens
A round, screen by screen

Eight in: everyone else scans to join.

The outsider's last chance: pick the word.
Got away with it, and guessed it!

Made for the line
However long the wait.
In a theme park line or on a car trip, the phone is only the referee. The fun is in the talking.
Two-minute rounds
Squeeze one in before the next switchback, or play round after round in a long wait.
Boarding? Stop the round.
One tap from the host. Everyone keeps their score, and the room waits for you in the next line.
Patchy signal is fine
The game lives on a server, not on anyone's phone. Lose signal for a moment and you pick up where you left off.
The host sets the pace
Change the timers or turn them off, and move on when everyone's ready.
Polite in a crowd
Sound follows the iPhone's silent switch and plays along with your music.

Questions
Questions families ask
What's a good game to play in a theme park line?
Out of Line was made for it. Everyone plays on their own phone, a round takes about two minutes, and most of the game is talking out loud, so you can still shuffle forward with the line. One person starts a game at play.qubesoftware.com/out-of-line and everyone else scans the QR code. When it's time to board, the host stops the round and everyone keeps their score for the next line.
Is Out of Line free?
Yes. Out of Line is free to play in your web browser. There are no ads and nothing to buy.
How many players does Out of Line need?
Three to ten. Each player usually has their own phone, and anyone without one can share a phone with their own seat and score.
Does everyone need a phone?
No. Kids, grandparents or anyone whose battery died can play on someone else's phone with their own name, seat and score. Before anything secret, the phone asks to be passed to the right person. One phone can even carry the whole group, passed around. Every phone in the game needs an internet connection.
Do we need to download an app or make an account?
No. Out of Line runs in the web browser on any phone, tablet or computer. One person taps Start a new game, and everyone else scans the QR code and types a name. There's no app store, no sign-up and no email.
How do you play Out of Line?
Everyone holds their ride ticket to see the secret word, except one player, whose ticket says "You're out of line!" Players take turns asking each other the question on their phone, out loud, answering clearly enough to show they know the word without giving it away. Then everyone votes in secret on who's out of line. Caught or not, the outsider gets one guess at the word. Catching the outsider is worth a point, getting away with it three, and guessing the word two more. Points carry over from round to round.
Is Out of Line safe for kids?
There's no chat, no ads and nothing to buy. The only thing a player types that others see is their own name; everything else is said out loud. Rooms are private: you join only with a room's QR code, link or code, and the host can remove anyone. A room deletes itself after 12 quiet hours.
What ages is Out of Line for?
We suggest 8 and up. Players read a secret word and short questions, then bluff their way through. It's made for mixed groups, so kids, parents and grandparents play together.
Does Out of Line work without signal?
It needs an internet connection, because the game runs on a server that keeps every phone in step and every vote secret. It's built for patchy signal in lines: a phone that drops out picks up where it left off, and the game never waits on anyone.
What languages is Out of Line in?
English, for now.
