Quick setup

  1. Open Allowance and enter a family name.
  2. Add at least one child and choose a starting balance.
  3. Use Balances to see each child's ledger, record money, and open savings goals.
  4. Use Repeat to create weekly or monthly additions and deductions.
  5. Visit Settings for reminders, app lock, export and import, reset, and optional iCloud backup and restore.

Allowance is a virtual family ledger. It does not connect to a bank or card, and no real money moves through the app.

Add or remove money

From Balances, choose a child and select the control to add or remove money. Enter the amount, add an optional note, and save. The transaction appears in that child's history and updates the displayed balance.

If a balance looks unexpected, open the child's history and review recent transactions and recurring entries. The family transaction view can help you search across the full ledger.

Weekly and monthly schedules

Repeat lets you schedule recurring additions or deductions. Allowance evaluates schedules when the app opens. If a scheduled date passes while the app is closed, the ledger catches up the next time you open it.

If an entry is missing, reopen the app and check that the rule is active, assigned to the intended child, and has the expected amount, frequency, and next date. A reminder can prompt you to open the app, but scheduled ledger entries do not require a bank transfer or background payment.

Savings goals

Open a child's account and create a goal with a name and target amount. You can move ledger money into or out of a goal, follow its progress, and mark it complete when the target is reached. Goal amounts remain virtual ledger entries; Allowance does not hold or move real funds.

Local notifications

Reminders are optional and are scheduled locally on your iPhone. Enable them in Allowance Settings and allow notifications when iOS asks. If they do not appear, open the iPhone Settings app, find Allowance under Notifications, and confirm notifications are allowed. Focus modes and notification summaries can delay their display.

iCloud Backup availability

iCloud Backup is optional. Your iPhone must be signed in to your personal iCloud account with iCloud Drive available. If backup is unavailable, confirm iCloud Drive is enabled, that the device has a working internet connection and available iCloud storage, then reopen Allowance and try again.

Backup files belong to your iCloud account and are governed by its settings and availability. Qube, LLC cannot access the files or restore them for you. All core ledger features continue to work locally without iCloud.

Backup and restore are not sync

Version 1.0 saves backup files and restores one only when you choose. It does not keep two devices synchronized. Changes made on one device do not automatically appear on another device.

When local data already exists, Restore offers two choices. Merge Into Current Data adds anything missing, but it can bring back items you previously deleted. Replace All Current Data wipes this device's local ledger first, then restores the selected backup. Before continuing, check the backup date and make a fresh export or backup of your current ledger. Keep Allowance open until the operation confirms it is complete.

Face ID or device-passcode lock

Turn on app lock in Settings to ask iOS for Face ID or device-passcode authentication when Allowance opens. If it does not work, make sure a device passcode is set and Face ID is available to Allowance in iPhone Settings, then close and reopen the app. Authentication is handled by iOS; Qube, LLC never receives your biometric data or passcode.

Export, import, and reset

Export creates a backup file you can save in a location you control. Import loads a selected backup into Allowance, so export your current ledger first and confirm you selected the intended file.

Reset deletes family data stored inside the app on this device. It does not delete exported files or backups kept in your iCloud account. Those files must be managed separately where they are stored; iCloud backups can be found and deleted with Apple's Files app. Uninstalling the app likewise removes local app data but does not guarantee deletion of files stored elsewhere.

Report a problem

Email admin@qubesoftware.com with your iOS version, Allowance version, the steps that led to the problem, what you expected, and what happened. A screenshot can help, but remove or cover family names, child details, balances, transactions, and notes first. Please do not send an export or backup file containing private family data.
