This policy explains how Qube, LLC handles information in Backpocket. The short version is simple: Backpocket processes clips and prompts on your Mac, and Qube, LLC does not receive them.
What Backpocket processes locally
While capture is on, Backpocket reads new macOS pasteboard content so it can show, search, and reuse recent copies. An ordinary history entry can include clipboard content, a timestamp, favorite and Burn After Use status, and best-effort information about the source app. Supported content includes text, images, PDFs, and references to files copied in Finder.
The prompt library stores plain-text prompts plus identifiers, dates, optional titles, optional AI Tool destination labels, and optional tags. AI Tool is organization metadata only. Backpocket does not run a prompt, contact a model, or integrate with ChatGPT, Claude, or another AI service.
Ordinary history and prompts are saved as separate JSON files in Backpocket's local macOS container. This is on-device processing for features the user requested. Clips and prompts are not sent to Qube, LLC or a cloud service.
Data the app does not collect
Backpocket has no account system, cloud sync, analytics, telemetry, advertising, tracking, or third-party SDKs. The Mac App Store build is sandboxed and is signed without client or server network entitlements, so macOS prevents it from making its own network connections.
- No account or profile is created.
- No clip, prompt, prompt metadata, or source-app information is uploaded or synchronized.
- No analytics, advertising identifier, or tracking data is collected.
- No crash-reporting service receives diagnostics.
- No AI service receives prompts or history from Backpocket.
Prompt import and export
When the user chooses Import or Export, the standard macOS open or save panel allows Backpocket to access the one file the user selects. Backpocket performs that requested read or write, creates no security-scoped bookmark, and does not remember the selection or retain access to it.
An exported prompt file is an ordinary, owner-readable document at the location the user chose. The user controls that file and any later copies, backups, or sharing of it. Backpocket does not upload it.
Sensitive copies and password managers
Copies that a password manager or another app marks as sensitive are skipped by default. If the user explicitly enables recording for recognized sensitive copies, those entries are held for the current Backpocket session, marked with a key badge, and excluded from saved history. They clear from Backpocket when the app quits, even if favorited.
Detection has an important limit: an unmarked secret looks like ordinary clipboard text. A password manually copied from a plain text field may not carry a sensitive marker and can be saved like any other copy. Pause capture before copying material that must not enter history, then remove any entry no longer wanted.
Concealed copies are not eligible to become prompts and never persist in the prompt library.
Source attribution and ignored apps
Source-app attribution is best-effort. Clipboard changes and rapid app switches can make the apparent source incomplete or inaccurate. The ignored-app list relies on that attribution, so it is also best-effort. If a copy must not be captured, use Pause Capture before copying it rather than relying only on the ignore list.
Retention, Burn After Use, and deletion
The user controls how long ordinary history remains available. Settings can limit history to 25 through 1,000 items, clear it on demand, optionally clear it when Backpocket quits, or expire ordinary clips after an hour, a day, or a week. Favorites do not expire. Prompts are separate and remain until the user deletes them.
Burn After Use means that after a marked clip is successfully copied out of Backpocket, it is removed from Backpocket's history. The content remains on the macOS clipboard. Backpocket cannot confirm whether another app accepted a paste.
Clearing or expiring history updates Backpocket's local history file. It does not securely erase filesystem snapshots, backups, exported prompt files, the system clipboard, or copies controlled by other apps. Those remain under the controls of macOS and the user's backup tools.
Local storage and encryption
Backpocket's local data files are restricted to the user's macOS account, but they are ordinary owner-readable files. Backpocket does not encrypt them and does not describe them as a vault. The app's Privacy Report and Settings provide controls to reveal the data folder, history file, and prompts file in Finder.
The data folder keeps the internal name ClipboardHistory for upgrade compatibility so existing data is not orphaned by the Backpocket rename.
Sale, sharing, and service providers
Qube, LLC does not sell, rent, share, or disclose clips, prompts, or in-app usage data. Backpocket uses no external service provider to process that data. Because the app does not transmit it, there is no server-side app-data request, export, or account-deletion process.
Support email and the website
If a person emails Qube, LLC for support or privacy questions, Qube receives the email address and whatever information the sender chooses to include. Qube uses that information to respond to the request. Users should not send history files, prompt files, exports, or private clipboard content unless they have reviewed what those files contain.
The Qube Software website does not use analytics, advertising, visitor tracking, newsletter forms, or third-party runtime embeds.
Children's privacy
Backpocket does not knowingly collect personal information from children or anyone else. Clipboard and prompt processing remains local to the user's Mac as described above.
Changes to this policy
If Backpocket's data practices change, this page will be updated and its effective date revised. Any future feature that changes data collection also requires a matching App Store privacy disclosure.
